Robin Tremlett Francis (Licensed Surveyor)
Born 1929

Born 1929, Colinton, Brisbane Valley. Eldest Son of R. J. Francis, farmer grazier,
obtained senior pass and made university matriculation from Church of England
Grammar School (now Anglican Church Grammar School). Grandson of Thomas Allan
Walker, Government Railway Surveyor. Articled pupil in surveying with
Cyril Fryar Bennett 1947, registered as an
Authorised Surveyor 1951.
Partnership of C.F. Bennett and Francis established 1958 and upon death of
Cyril Fryar Bennett in 1962,
continued in sole practice and gradually introduced partners and expanded the practice both within
the City and throughout Queensland. President Qld Division Institution of Surveyors Australia
1961-62 and Vice President Australia 1963 FISA and FRGS. Formerly Chairman of Directors Brisbane
Crematorium Ltd, Vice President Queensland Society for Crippled Children, Deputy Chairman
Metway Bank Ltd., Director Rotary Club of Brisbane.
Surveyed the easements for the first oil pipe line in Queensland, Moonie to Brisbane. Co-author
with Registrar of Titles R. H. McMillan of the first Strata Title Act in Queensland.
Introduced electronic calculators and computers to the practice developed advanced technologies
for surveying the construction control of city high rise buildings, encouraged younger partners and
surveyors to cautiously introduce modern technology to the practice.
Retired from the survey practice 1976 to enjoy a rural lifestyle.
